Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated
dance pop
2019
After her fantastic album E.MO.TION, I should admit that I am disappointed a little bit. Her level of producing good quality of pop music still remains same. I do not see any improvement, however, this does not mean this is a bad album, far from bad. "Julien" is a good opener, but i am not a big fan of it. "No Drug Like Me" is a good song and but not great. "Now That I Found You" is also pretty enjoyable, even if I find it to be slightly overproduced. "I Want You in My Room" is just meh, but the funky instrumental and use of harmonies make it standout for sure. "Everything He Needs" is great and my personal favourite from this album, I really do love the 'He needs me' refrain a lot, it's fairly playful and cute. "Happy Not Knowing" isn't really that standout to me though. I don't exactly dislike it but I feel like it just lacks the memorability of the tracks that came before it. "I'll Be Your Girl", picks it back up though and while maybe it isn't exactly the best track, it certainly has the most interesting structure to the verses. "Too Much" really does live up to it's name, as in I think that it's repetition is a little redundant. It's a single that blends in and doesn't really stand as anything special from the pact. "The Sound" is also particularly underwhelming, probably my least favorite on the album. I absolutely adore "Automatically in Love". The synthline and Carly's passionate delivery on the song elevates the song so much in addition to what's possibly the most catchy chorus on the album to me. "Feels Right" is really soulful and the guitar that pops up on the track is really punchy and works so well with the rest of the track. "Right Words Wrong Time" is unfortunately another underwhelming song for me even if I really appreciate the lyrics, like a lot. "Real Love" is a high note to end on though, and definitely makes up for the weak ending the last album had. The super dancey chorus is completely irresistible for me.
7/10
